How to Play

Setup

  1. Prepare bingo cards (4x4 or 5x5). Each square contains a unique descriptor, such as "speaks 3 languages," "has a cat," or "ran a marathon." Include a balanced mix of easy and uncommon prompts.
  2. Add a free center space if using a 5x5 grid to speed play.
  3. Print enough cards so no two are identical, and provide pens/markers for all players.
  4. Decide verification: initial/signatures from the person who matches the square, plus a quick facilitator spot-check when someone calls "Bingo!".
  5. Set a time limit (10–20 minutes depending on group size) and define the winning pattern: a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line of completed squares.
  6. Prepare a small prize (optional) and a timer. Ensure there is open space for mingling.

How to Play

  1. Distribute a card and pen to each participant. Explain that the goal is to be the first to complete a line by finding colleagues who match the descriptors.
  2. Players mingle. When a player finds someone who fits a square, they ask a quick follow-up question to confirm and invite that person to sign or initial that square.
  3. A single person may sign only one square on any given card to encourage broader interaction.
  4. Players may not sign squares for themselves.
  5. When a player completes a line, they call out "Bingo!" and bring the card to the facilitator.
  6. The facilitator verifies by reading a few squares aloud and briefly confirming with signers if needed. If valid, announce the winner. Continue for additional winners or start a new round.

Rules

  1. Be honest: only sign a square if it truly applies to you.
  2. One signature per signer per card.
  3. No self-signing.
  4. Keep moving—aim for conversations of 30–60 seconds.
  5. Be respectful: participants may pass on any question.
  6. Use the exact wording on squares unless the facilitator clarifies.
  7. Time limit applies; if no one wins by the end, the most squares completed wins.
  8. In ties, run a 2-minute sudden-death mini-round or draw a prize.

Tips

  • Seed a mix of easy wins (e.g., "drinks coffee") and interesting specifics (e.g., "has visited 10+ countries").
  • Model a friendly approach: "Hi, I’m Alex—do you happen to..." to lower anxiety.
  • Post a large countdown timer and play upbeat background music to keep energy high.
  • Encourage inclusive, accessible prompts; avoid overly personal or sensitive topics.
  • Circulate as a facilitator to connect people and clarify rules.
  • Debrief after: invite 2–3 players to share a fun discovery.

Variations

  • Team Bingo: Small teams share one card; first team to complete a line wins.
  • Themed Packs: Tailor prompts to project roles, company values, or event themes.
  • Blackout: Challenge mode where the goal is to fill the entire card (extend time).
  • Speed Round: Use 4x4 cards for a quick 7–10 minute energizer.
  • Hybrid/Remote: Use a digital bingo generator and breakout rooms; signatures become initials in chat or reactions.
